I used to work as a Parish Secretary, and one day, we had a couple stop in. They said that they were cleaning out one of their parents’ estates, and they brought over almost a whole kitchen of things to donate!
Now, I was sort of annoyed because we do not have room for donations like this, and we tell everyone to take donations to a shelter in a neighboring town…
I helped them move all of the donations to a spare office and thought to myself that I can just take the donations to the shelter tomorrow since I have to go there anyway…
Y’all two hours later I got this call from a parishioner (It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it): “Hi… my neighbors house is on fire, and everything is burning, and it’s freezing outside (we live in Michigan, and it was winter), and I just was wondering if we could post on Facebook and ask people for donations if they have any extra things…”
I was trying so hard to hold it all together, and I said that earlier today we got a huge donation with a whole kitchen worth of things!
I said that I would post on Facebook for things like coats, boots, hats, gloves, bedding and other supplies, food, and money. We were overwhelmed with donations, and the church was able to nearly furnish a house. AND we were able to give the kids and parents tons of clothes, winter gear, and bedding. Another parishioner called who had older kids and said that she cleaned out their closets last week. She went home on her lunch hour, gathered all of the bags of clothes and brought everything over.
This all came together in a day, and the Lord walked us through every step of the way.
The timeline met up perfectly and there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this was a “God Thing.”
I was ashamed that I got annoyed at the people who donated the kitchen goods because I should have known that they were there for a reason. I learned to stop trying to control everything, He has control, He has a plan, and that day we were just playing our role in that family’s healing.
